Zachary Colby and pianist, Mark Bilyeu offer a recital called Note to Self: Keep Moving that offers a hopeful message as we navigate the “winters” in our lives. The musical offerings center on Jonathan Dove’s song cycle Out of Winter, but also includes works by Dodie, Gala Flagello, Gilda Lyons, Rachel DeVore Fogarty, Robert Owens, H. Leslie Adams, and Scott Gendel. All of the music was composed after 1968, most occurring after 2003. This performance was captured in August of 2021 at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

By almost any measure, our ability to communicate has never been more advanced. Nevertheless, people and communities - though linked by technology - still struggle to connect in meaningful ways. During its 2018-2019 touring season, Cantus explores the challenges of connecting in our modern age through works by Beethoven and Bernstein paired with such contemporary composers as Jennifer Higdon, David Lang, and Gabriel Kahane.

Zachary sings a cameo for a production of Michael Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight at the University of Nebraska at Omaha with his students. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic the university suspended all performances and announced students would finish the semester remotely from home. This final run-through was filmed without audience on the last day of in-person instruction. His performance starts at 18:34.
